INTERNATIONAL WEEKS
AGAINST RACISM
16 – 29 March 2026
Würzburg
The International Weeks Against Racism will take place from March 16 to 29, 2026.
Together, we want to send out a clear message in Würzburg once more: for solidarity, diversity, and equal rights for all – against racism, right-wing extremism, and exclusion.
This year brings another series of engaging events, exploring the topic of racism in a wide variety of ways.
We want to put the knowledge and experiences of those affected at the center and create spaces that encourage interaction, exchange, and empowerment.
Whether at a film screening, reading, theater performance, or workshop: discover new perspectives, get involved, and experience how dialogue can make real change possible.
Participation in all events is free of charge. Donations are welcome.
For some events, prior registration is required.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The following list only displays events that are (simultaneously) held in English or do not require knowledge of German. For a list of all events, please visit the German version of the website here.

Culture and Diversity Festival: “WÜ-nite”
As part of the International Weeks Against Racism, we invite Würzburg’s international associations to jointly create a diverse cultural program and send a strong message of solidarity and cooperation.
The program will be presented on March 18, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM in the Bertold-Hummel-Saal at the Mozartareal.
The cultural diversity of our city enriches society and is our asset for the future. Let’s celebrate this together!
📍 Bertold-Hummel-Saal, Mozartareal (Hofstraße 11, 97070 Würzburg)
An event organized by Ausländer- und Integrationsbeirat of the City of Würzburg.
20/03/2026, 2:00 – 6:00 PM
Creativity Workshop: “NO! to the Payment Card”
Since July 2024, many refugees have been affected by the discriminatory payment card. However, this card comes with severe restrictions: a maximum of € 50.00 in cash per month, bank transfers only upon request, and payments allowed exclusively within one’s own district.
In practice, this means massive limitations on the affected individuals’ autonomy, participation, and freedom of movement.
After nearly two years of harassment, discrimination, and control, the payment card has largely disappeared from public attention. Many people still know nothing about it, while others follow the racist rhetoric of the German government.
We want to change that: in a creativity workshop, we will design protest materials such as demo signs, stickers, postcards, and more – bringing the payment card back to public attention.
In doing so, we place the experiences of those affected at the center. Through joint creation, we want to create a space where everyone can learn, take action, and everyone is welcome!
📍 Kapitel 3 (Mainaustraße 50, 97082 Würzburg)
An event organized by Würzburg Solidarisch e.V.
20/03/2026, 5:00 PM
Newroz 2026: “Igniting the Fire of Hope Together”
According to the story of Kawa Hadad, a legendary blacksmith, the fire on March 20 represents the courage to rise up against oppression. Kawa lit the flames on a mountain to signal the end of tyranny.
This is how the Newroz festival began – a symbol of freedom, renewal, and the triumph of justice.
Today, this fire continues to burn! During the International Weeks Against Racism, we want to use it to send a strong message against discrimination and inequality.
Together, we ignite the fire of hope – for a world without racism!
📍 Mainwiesen Zellerau (Mainaustraße 34, 97082 Würzburg)
An event organized by KAJIN – Kurdischer Kulturverein Würzburg.
21/03/2026, 3:00 PM
Eid al-Fitr: “A Time to Celebrate and Connect”
We warmly invite you to celebrate Eid al-Fitr, marking the end of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, with us!
After weeks of reflection and communal fasting, Eid al-Fitr marks the transition from a period of inner contemplation to a day full of joy, gratitude, and togetherness.
As part of our weekly Welcome Café, we want to take Eid al-Fitr as an opportunity to bring people of different backgrounds and living realities together.
On this day, we want to create a vibrant space for encounters, where social barriers are overcome, new connections are formed, and a sense of community is felt by everyone involved.
If also you would like to be part of this special day, sign up quickly. Spaces are very limited!
📍The location will be shared after registration.

Demonstration: “Freedom of Movement for All – Against Racist Migration Policies!”
Right-Wing Shift in Germany, attacks on refugee shelters, violence against migrantized people, illegal pushbacks, more frequent and harsher deportations, and the racist payment card. We demand: Stop this – unconditional freedom of movement for everyone!
Further information about this event will be announced soon.
📍The venue will be announced shortly.
An event organized by Würzburg Solidarisch e.V. and Seebrücke Wüzburg.
25/03/2026, 6:00 PM
Movie & Talk: “The Boat is Full – Fully Against Racism”
The documentary follows the migrant initiative “Caravan” on their 1998 tour of Germany. Migrants traveled together across the country to visit remote camps, protest the treatment of refugees, and empower those affected.
In the election year 1998, their motto was: “We have no choice, but we have a voice!” – and those voices were loud: at rallies, in front of police stations, and outside isolated refugee accommodations all across Germany.
The film shows how strong refugee self-organization was in Germany in 1998. In the following discussion, we will explore why this remains important today in resisting the right-wing shift and discriminatory migration laws.
Muna Abdi and Rex Osa, two experienced activists for freedom of movement, will share their experiences with us.
🎤 The event will be held in Dari, French, English, and German.
📍 Kapitel 3 (Mainaustraße 50, 97082 Würzburg)
An event organized by Würzburg Solidarisch e.V.
28/03/2026, 5:00 PM
Reading & Music: “Chameleon”
The Odysseus Syndrome describes a state of chronic stress that can arise when people migrate under intense pressure: uncertainty, loneliness, lack of support, and at the same time the compulsion to “function” in everyday life.
It is often closely linked to the suffering of migration: an internal process of grief that encompasses not only the loss of a place but also other aspects of our personality that shape who we are.
On this evening, Mairén Tamar Hernandez will present her self-illustrated book “Chameleon”, which tells stories based on real experiences of people living outside their countries of origin – about adaptation, inner conflicts, and quiet emotional struggles.
The presentation is accompanied by music and art connected to the themes of migration-related suffering, farewells, and new beginnings – serving as an invitation to listen, relate, and engage in mutual exchange.
🎤 The event will take place in Dari, French, English, and German

Theater & Panel: “A Thousand Stories, One Suffering”
In the Midst of Upheaval: Afghanistan, August 2021. Women gather in a school – a place of refuge in a state of emergency. They bring memories, inner wounds, and hope. Their stories speak of loss, motherhood, a thirst for education, and the strength to imagine a future despite everything.
“A Thousand Stories, One Suffering” is based on the real experiences of Afghan women – artistically interpreted and brought to the stage as physical theater.
Between documentary fragments and performative language, a multi-voiced chorus of voices, gestures, and inner rebellion emerges. A physically poetic piece about invisibility, resistance, and the power of remembering.
Following the performance, the director, artists, and other experts will talk about the political, social, and cultural developments in Afghanistan since 2021.
🎤 The event will be held in Dari, English, and German.
📍 Theater Augenblick (Oskar-Laredo-Platz 1, 97080 Würzburg)
An event organized by Würzburg Solidarisch e.V.,
in cooperation with Theater Augenblick.
